Imagine Nation Studio Sundays
Every Sunday from 12-3 PM, children and their favorite adult can drop by the Museum for free, themed art activity. Available for kids of all ages to learn about art and to give them the opportunity to create their own art project in the studio. There will be a different art project featured each week.
February - Poetry in Paint and Print
Don't worry if you can't write poetry! This month we'll show you how much fun it can be to play with words and images to create visual poems. You'll have tons of fun exploring and mixing it up with paints, printmaking and text.
Upcoming Themes:
March - Delectable Design
Delectable means delightful and enjoyable and is often used to describe a delicious meal. Delectable design will give you the chance to create some delightful projects inspired by the way in which food can provide the decorative images in different designs.
April - Art and Nature
Fun ways to look at plants and animals in art. You'll have lots of fun learning some cool and unusual ways in which you can illustrate a variety of wildlife.

Have you ever noticed that many dogs out for winter walks wear coats, sweaters and even boots? Can you imagine what kind of outfit a goldfish or a pet mouse might wear to stay warm? Even if you don't have a pet, you will have a lot of fun and a lot of laughs dreaming up crazy creations for different animals to wear.

Lets Look at the Sky
Where children ages 7-10 can expand and explore their creativity through innovative and engaging programs taught by professional artist instructors.
Take a tour of landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes and see how different the sky can look in each. You'll also discover how different the sky is at night, with the seasons, and with weather. Then, head down to the studio to create different skies using a variety of art materials. With your imagination and creativity& the sky's the limit!

Fun with Still Life

Let's look at the variety of objects that have inspired artists to paint them as still life. You'll see everything from food to shells on a beach, arranged to create still life paintings. We'll focus on food and then you'll go to the studio to create your own crazy, modern and delicious take on still life with food, using collage and mixed media.

For ages 7-10
Celebrate your very own corner of Pennsylvania with this series of three very special workshops. These fun workshops will combine art, music and historical artifacts. Experience something different each week while looking at and creating art and music each step of the way. Week 1: Eastern Woodlands Indians
You'll experience traditional Seneca songs, play a Native American stick game, dance a unity dance and make a project using pictographs.

Week 2: Early Settlers
Explore the culture of people who first settled western Pennsylvania and make "junk" instruments to play while you sing the groundhog song and other fun songs inspired by the settlers. You'll discover how to dance a reel too. So come ready to create and move and sing!

For ages 7-10

Come along for all three workshops to discover the history of Pennsylvania or sign-up for one or two if you can't make it to all of them.
Week 3: Industrial Age
In this final week, you'll learn how the steel industry made big changes to Pennsylvania as you hear songs that illustrate the work of the steel mills. You'll investigate the symbols and images that artists used in their paintings and examine historical photographs and maps for the clues to change. Finally, you'll create a song, using kazoos, to tell the story of western Pennsylvania's industry, then, now and in the future.
