DISCOVER ... Backpacks!
There's something new at The Westmoreland for children and their favorite adults.
Take a Museum journey with our free Family Backpacks, full of gallery games and activities.
Three different adventures to choose from - still life, landscape and portraits.
Check out in the lobby on first floor. Available year-round.
The backpacks are a group activity designed for elementary school age students and their families. Yet, children of all ages as well as adults will have fun learning about art by using the backpacks. Younger students are able to use the backpacks with guidance from an adult. For older kids, the backpacks are a fun and interesting introduction to The Westmoreland's collection.
What's in each backpack will engage children and parents as
they move throughout the Museum. Decals on the gallery walls next to paintings
relate to each category and help guide families to the artwork referred to in the pack.
Every backpack includes a scavenger hunt, stretched canvas, color wheel, viewfinder, artist
brushes and a children's book.
The DISCOVER ... Backpacks Program has been made possible by the generous support
of the following: The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, Cavcon Construction Inc.,
Concept Art Gallery, Fotorecord Print Center, Harrold Middle School faculty, and Mountain View Inn.
There are still backpacks in need of sponsors. If you are interested, please call The Westmoreland
at 724-837-1500 ext. 19.

Alicia's sister, Maura McElhaney (blue pack). The students came with their parents to the Museum
because their teachers were on strike.
