Pop-Up Exhibition: Sam Thorp and Brian Gonnella
Wednesday February 05, 2014 - Sunday March 02, 2014

Left: Singularity by Brian Gonnella
Right: Anonymous by Sam Thorp
The Westmoreland is currently featuring month-long exhibitions of various artists at Westmoreland @rt 30.

Sam Thorp's Obvious Flaws shows the glitches and defects staring us right in the face that we fail to notice. The solutions to all our problems are plain and simple, yet we never figure it out. What are we missing that is right in front of our face? This work sorts through the filters and clutter to get to the essence of the matter, revealing character and narrative in graceful lines and primary colors.

Brian Gonnella's The Southern Era presents a series of paintings immersed in the unique narrative setting he has been developing throughout his career, informed by his own futurist theories about the direction of human society. Set 2,000 years after the Apocalypse, The Southern Era introduces the next chapter in this imagined history: a world in which the struggle of historically oppressed people and ideologies of the Third World, or "Global South" have finally bore fruit. Society has been reorganized. New Nation-States and Empires have been carved out among the ruins of the Old World, the legacy of the past but a distant shadow in the wastelands of the world it destroyed.
